From Paper Stories
As you may know if you have read any of our previous blog posts, I own a craft store. Sometimes for this, I purchase clip art from a variety of different amazing artists who sell their work with licenses, and I love the idea of using my small business to support another! One day I was scrolling through, and came across some absolutely beautiful artwork from a little Etsy shop, 'From Paper Stories'. I just fell in love with Camila's style and knew I wanted to incorporate her work with mine!
I decided to get in touch with Camila, the owner of From Paper Stories, and she was lovely enough to have a little chat with us for the blog! Thank you so much, Camila, I appreciate you so much, and i'll be quiet now and let Camila take over here!
Hello! My name is Camila Fernandes, I live in Lisbon, Portugal. I’m addicted to cats, summer, coffee, and Stephen King books. I also love watching spy and crime dramas. When I’m at home, you meet me mostly in my studio. However I like to draw on the couch with my iPad Pro, while my husband watches Netflix.
I have always been creative and loved art. I studied graphic art and design in college and this allowed me to do internships in several different design media - web, movement, printing, fashion - After graduating, I worked in the fashion industry for over ten years, designing prints and patterns for clothes. I liked that because I always had a passion for fashion. But over time, I felt uninspired and I missed creative work. One day I decided to take the leap. I dropped everything and made art and illustrations my full-time job.
I started selling my work on print-on-demand sites like Society 6, Casetify, a few years ago. Nowadays, I dedicate myself full time to my store on Etsy, where the most sold items are clip arts, mainly those related to self-care.
Today, my favorite item is the Birthday Wishes collection, where I designed gifts that I would like to receive for my birthday this year. I am thrilled to represent a little of my personality in my work. I consider that my art is fun, unpretentious, and happy. I seek inspiration in my daily routine, in funny moments, and in fashion and beauty Instagrams.
My advice for new artists is to be patient, produce a lot of content, and be consistent. Don’t worry so much about being original or not having a personal style yet. I think that only by producing will you find your style. Austin Kleon’s Show Your Work book and Creative Pep Talk podcast helped me a lot to lose my fear and improve my work.
A huge thank you again to Camila for chatting with me, I appreciate you taking the time away from designing your beautiful illustrations to answer some things for us! Take a look at the links below to find From Paper Stories.
